I just posted a list of books I have recently read or am in the process of reading. When I looked at the blog and the first book listed I realized that I better explain this book or people with think I am some anti-Christian person, which I am not. The book is written by two men, who in my opinion hit the nail right on the head with this book. I am all for teaching our children about God and learning the life of Jesus and how we can learn from those stories. What I am not for is those that are willing to shove their views of their religion down my throat. The book goes over the many different aspects of Christianity and how it seems a bit skewed at times. For example, one small little rule we Christians follow is not to kill other people. So the far right extremist feel that abortion breaks that rule, and so to make their point they bomb abortion clinics killing the doctors and nurses who work there.....see the problem here? It also talks about those that are on their soap boxes "preaching" down to those that do not share their same views, like we are less than Christian because we are not in line with their beliefs. Anyways, it is a good book and just looks at the way Christians, I should say some Christians, act and how in the end all Christians have to pay for the outspoken ones in the group.
The other books I am reading becuase I saw them and they sounded good. The Death of Innocents is written by Sister Helen Prejean(Dead Man Walking) and it is a look at how the jsutice system is failing some and putting innocent men to death, all for the sake of holding someone accountable for a crime, even if it is the wrong person.
The last book listed is a great book about how to keep your kids grounded in our world today. It has some great ideas as to how to teach certain life lessons to your kids, like compassion for others. I would recommend this book to anyone with kids.
I just wanted to clear up my book selections so I didn't have someone leaving me a nasty comment thinking I am some awful person. Granted if you left me the nasty comment I would have to ask you, who really is the awful one?
