Just wanted to let everyone know that we took Jamie to the doctor today as he had a horrible night. He went to sleep on me easrly last night befor ePat got home, so I put him in bed hoping he would be down for the night. he woke up not long after not able to really breathe. I thne went out with Andrew to shop and have dinner while Pat stayed home. Jamie fell asleep on Pat and was put in bed around 8:30pm. He woke back up at 11:30pm(I had just shut the lights off) and I brought him to the family room and he chugged milk, big mistake on my part but since has hasn't eaten in a few days I thought the calories would be good. As you can guess he proceed to get into a coughing fit a threw up on me and him. He fell back asleep at 12:30am and then was back awake again at 2:30am. Pat got up with him then and went downstairs, where Jamie proceeded to get sick again. Jamie fell asleep for a bit on Pat but then woke up at 4:30am, and I went downstairs to get him. He had a fever of 101 and we gave him meds and rocked him. He fell back asleep by about 5am and I brought him to my room where he slept on me until 9am when my darling daughter decided it was time for us to wake up. When Jamie first got up he seemed to be in a great mood, no fever, not coughing much and playing. Well that lasted about 30 minutes. Fever came back, coughing was horrible and his mood was even worse. We called the doctor who happens to have Saturday hours, yeah, and got an 11am appointment. Side note, why is it that as a patient you can be charged for being late but a doctor can have you waiting over an hour and you just have to sit there???
So, we wait at the doctor where he napped on me for a bit and then got miserable and cranky and wanted to leave. Finally the doctor came in and he explained that Jamie had some wheezing issues going on and he felt that what he has is some sort of flu like virus that has infected his chest. But he also said with the fever coming back so often that it could be some sort of pneumonia. He said if the fevers are still coming back on Monday we have to go back and he will take a more aggressive approach. So for now we are on albuterol, which jacks my kid up, some sort of antibiotic for the next 5 days, ear drops as one of his ears looks suspicous and of course fever reducer.
I asked the doctor about this being contagious and he said yes. But he said with most other kids they will just get a bad cough and runny nose, but with Jamie and the asthma issue it affected his lungs. So now we are worried to get Jamie near our nephew who is young, about 9 months, as we don't want him to get some nasty cold. Of course we don't want our niece to get it either, but she is almost three and we feel that her body could fight it off better than a baby. So right now we are in the wait and see mode. This afternoon after the albuterol Jamie had a total change of disposition, back to being a talkative little boy and playing. He did get whiney at 7pm and so we rocked him and he fell asleep on me downstairs. He is in bed now, not sure how long it will last. Getting up ever two hours last night sucked and made it all too clear to me that I do not need a newborn ever again as I need my sleep. Pat and I have been zombie like today and have been pretty snippy with each other. Let's hope all the meds will make a difference and our Christmas will not be spent with a very sick baby.
